Modern Vice: Sick shoes handcrafted in NYC

A few qualities we really appreciate at Look Good/Do Good are local production and the preservation of handcrafted artisan traditions. But we aint willing to give up super fabulous, rad-ass design.  All of these elements, we believe, can and should be achieved in modern fashion design. 

So when we stumbling upon this handcrafted in NYC, blow your mind unique design shoe line Modern Vice, we were all like, "Nailed it!" Check out this video on how Modern Vice made the Mickie (not to be confused with this).

I love this Greenpoint Brooklyn based company - and not only because they work from the best part of Brooklyn ( hint I live there, McGuiness what what?!!) but also for their crazy cool design sense with an equally unwavering dedication to the preservation of handcraft and skill. Focused equally on beauty and process, Osborn works with weavers and cobblers in Guatemala and has developed a collection of handcrafted to-die-for kicks. Lookin' Good, Osborn.

King of doing African print right, Suno is at it again. Now they've bust out with a collection of summer sneakers worth running barefoot to your nearest Suno store/stockist for. (Careful, watch for glass). Slip on and lace up, they're like Ked's for grownups!

Krafted in Kenya from recycled rubber and fabrics leftovers, these shoes are totally econ-concious. Fifteen percent of profits go towards David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a Kenyan reserve devoted to protecting endangered elephants and rhinos. Suno we love you.

Loafers are a Great Alternative to Prissy Ballerina Flats

Dolce Vita Basic Loafer, $79

Ballerina flats are kind of prissy but they're so comfortable and practical. If you live in a walking city it would behoove you  to invest in a pair (pun intended). It took me a few years to get on the ballerina train but last spring I finally bought a black pair leather pair, with snake skin textured toe caps (from Banana Republic, shhhhh don't tell anyone they were really cool I swear leave me alone). I haven't taken them off in months. The front soles have separated from the bottoms and it looks like I'm walking around in shoes with flapping rubber Muppet tongues. I tried to super glue them back together. I REALLY DID. But alas, it's time to buy another pair of flats. It's not that I'm cheap, I just haven't been able to find ones that were un-prissy enough for my taste. But search no more. Finally there's a great UN-prissy alternative to the flat- ladies meet THE LOAFER. I really wanted the Loeffler Randall ones in this post but apparently so did bixches everywhere because they're totes sold out. I liked that they were covered in tasteful silver studs, adding edge but not over the top. I've found other loafers with studs but they always seem to be way too garish. To clarify- it's not that I think the  loafer is a new concept, I don't live in a cave, but they are finally on trend. They offer up a great alternative those of us who find ballerina flats insulting to our edgier senses of self. I love these DolceVita Loafers above sold at Urban Outfitters because they are simple, have a wooden sole with a rubber bottom so you won't fall on your ass, and they are straightforwardly awesome. I want to get all three shades but that would be greedy so I settled on the practical black. I am practical, if anything, at heart. At $79 they are a much more attractive in price alternative to the Loeffler Randall studded loafers I still have wet dreams about.  Sigh. One day.

New York Fashion Week, New Shoe Game, #moonslutboots

Wedges- Senso

With New York Fashion Week officially beginning tomorrow (but with shows beginning as early as this morning) I'm excited but also trying to center myself. Jesus Christ. Breathe.  NYFW has turned into more like a two week thing...not to mention the prep before hand.  I'll be covering shows the entire week and, with attending at at least five shows a day, it's really important to be comfortable but also to look good.  My brain is a little fried and actually the last thing I want to think about are my outfits. So I thought it would be a good plan to get a pair of statement shoes that would standout no matter how plain the outfit, and just rock them most of the week in varying ways. It was love at first site with these gold wedges that I found at Shoe Market in Brooklyn by Senso .  So what if they look a little like moon slut boots?  NBD.  This week I'll be posting various ways I'll wear them to the shows.

There are a few things on earth that I'm convinced I'd be a more complete, happy person if I owned them.  You can't tell me differently.  The first item is an iPhone (I know, I know.  I'm the last person on earth who doesn't have one but for some reason I have two Blackberries instead. Lame, long story #whitegirlproblems), the second is some sort of small dog such as a chihuahua or a french bull dog, and the third is this Neon Miu Miu Sandal.  Donations welcome.  BTW isn't this iPhone cover awesome? I found it on the internets.

We Can Marry Who We Love in NYC. And sandwiches like this are amazing:

 Jealous??!!  It's a sandwich called "The Godfather".  Any sandwich with this name better mean it, and it does. You TOO can get one at the Graham Avenue Meats and Deli.

In other news I finally decided on a pair of short boots! (see here) My River Island Safina boots finally came.  At $112 they are my cheaper alternative to the $500 Rag & Bone model that I've been wanting.  The Rag & Bone short boots are bad ass too but they cost more than I want to spend on a pair of shoes at this point. Someone want to pay off my grad school loans?  Then I can start putting more fancy things on this blog!  Didn't think so :(  I LOVE these boots so much I really haven't taken them off since they came in the mail.  Good thing I don't have a boyfriend because I've been wearing them to bed and I kick A LOT. I think I'm going to buy a black pair too.

IN ADDITIONAL NEWS ABOUT REALLY OBVIOUS THINGS THAT JUST MAKE SENSE:

NYC HAS FINALLY GOTTEN ITS SHIT TOGETHER AND PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO MARRY WHOEVER THEY LOVE.  WHAT A NOVEL CONCEPT. NOT. HAPPY GAY PRIDE WEEKEND!

 A little interpretive take on the red, white and blue theme that's going on all over the blogosphere right now. I think it goes hand and hand with the country Western theme that's also pretty popular, so I threw in some western elements like these short boots and a feminine cowboy hat.  I'm actually really purchasing these short boots- I finally decided on a pair! They're on the way in the mail right now. Pretty excited. Everyone knows about my obsession with bathrobes and how I would wear them in public if it were socially acceptable. No? Well I would!  And this little Burberry number  might just be the answer to my prayers- it is so chic maybe no one would notice it was really a bathrobe.  All the other items are just awesome because they are.  Happy I Die Friday love bugs!!
