New clothing line monster crush: LnA

Happy New Year! Hope everyone is happy, healthy, and ready to start with a clean slate!

If you've seen me recently I've most likely been wearing the above LnA items. Ad nauseum. All together, separately, to bed, to Netflix, to dates, to bitch, to laugh, to cry, to garden (yeah right). But you get my drift. Recently introduced to this line, I'm pretty convince it was designed with me in mind: grandiosity complex much?

But really. Comfortable separates you can do ANYTHING in! And by "anything" I mean roll out of bed and go directly to a party and no one would know you were double dipping. I wore the Column skirt on New Years Eve when I didn't even feel like going out and IT FELT LIKE I HAD STAYED HOME IN MY PJs. But I was out. Having fun(ish). Let's be honest- New Years can be weird. But speaking to the topic, this line is worth a long, intense gander if you're a girl of the casual chic ilk.

Never underestimate the power of a shift dress

Say what you will about Victoria Bekham, her ridiculous hair cuts and face that may or may not be injected with cement, but the woman knows how to dress to optimize her figure. Her secret seems to be that she mainly sticks to shift dresses in various incarnations. Why? Because a well tailored shift dress can enhance the good and it can hide a myriad of sins. I purchased this pretty wool felt number on Friday when I forgot about my work Christmas party (typical)  and had to run out at lunch and find something STAT. It was a pretty penny but staples like this are essential to have in your closet and are well worth the investment. While you might purchase cheaper things only to throw them in garbage bags and give them to charity next season, this dress is timeless and you can wear it regularly for years. The stellar tailoring of a great designer is hand over fist better than a cheaper version, also it will not wrinkle. Easy and gorgeous, isn't the print to die for and the asymmetrical shoulder so understated and rad?

Occupy Wallstreet: Yup I Really Was That For Halloween

I've been meaning to post pics of the dress I made for Halloween for Oh, About A Month. Nervous laughter. WHERE DOES TIME GO?  Geesh. So I was a rambunctious rendition of 'Occupy Wallstreet'. I laminated photos of some of the protest signs and images, then proceeded to superglue them all over a black sequined dress. The back of the dress is self-explanatory (I hope). I think it went over pretty well. The manicure was done by my friend Claire. The bottom image is from the fancy bathroom of a fly ass party Fiona Byrne and Alexa Chung  (amongst others) threw at the Tribeca Grand. At said party one girl dressed up like an enormous banana: she is my new hero though I may never know her name.

To be honest I'm super duper sick of myself so these will be the last few pictures of moi for a while.  BTW I realize my hair is a hot rats nest in the second picture.  It had been a long day and a long week.

Street Pics from NYFW

Lace Blouse and Bodysuit- American Apparel
Belt- Vintage
Necklace-Vintage ('70s)
Circle Skirt-American Apparel

I was pretty excited to find these street style pics of me today on Style Italy and realbeauty.com as I actually hadn't gotten any shots of this outfit. These were snapped as I was leaving a show at Lincoln Center.

I have a major post fashion week cold- body has given out- so I'm not feeling up to writing much more but I hope everyone is doing well! I'm going to go blow my nose.

Kisses from NYFW

Denim Diapers- Vintage Levis
Vintage shirt
BCBG booties
Leather fringe necklace by Jessica Templin

Another day...another fashion week outfit. All my friends know I live in tiny denim shorts we lovingly call "denim diapers" throughout the summer. They are high waisted, vintage Levis I have cut off at an obscenely short length. Obscenely. My ass cheeks kind of stick out. My thinking was - to not wear them at least one day of fashion week would not be honest about who I really am fashion-wise. Kind of trashy and sloppy in a rock star way OF COURSE. I paired them with an amazing, kissy lip print, vintage button down which was big enough to balance out the obscenity going on down below.  I found this shirt while vintage shopping with my friend Adrea Lord.  Andrea owns the t-shirt company Son of John and she liked this print so much she borrowed the shirt to create a similar print- available soon. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I survived Irene but had to mop up a glass of water that I kicked over

Dress (worn for optimal Real Housewives cleavage): Forever 21
Sandals: Some steeze I picked up at a Barney's sale
Gold Bracelet: Really a necklace wrapped around my wrist.  Gifted

Hey ya'll.  You know what I do when there's a natural disaster? Have a muthafuckin birthday party.  I was dancing and eating cupcakes with some of my best friends as torrential rains bombarded Brooklyn throughout the night.  We were all OK- if not a little wet.  The mop in this pic is not for flooding but because I kicked over a glass of water.  That was the extent of the damage for us pretty much!  Hope everyone is safe and sound. xo

I Die Friday: HJA

Chuck Benet Ramsey
Barbara Bushwick
Clara Bizna$$

Today's post is a homage to my favorite rap group Hand Job Academy (HJA).  They've got some bust ya shit open beats.  They've got fly steez.  And they just happen to be some of my best friends.  I'm also their stylist.  Based out of Brooklyn, they rap about pimps and hos, often from a female perspective - with Chuck Benet Ramsey countering chick attacks with a dude's point of view.  They're hilarious, they're entertaining, they're mad talented.  They're about to blow up.  So check them out before everyone else does: https://www.facebook.com/HJAcademy?sk=info
*Barbara Bushwick handcrafted that bra - putting little mirrors all over it herself.  She is my hero.

I Die Friday: Wolf and/or Cat Shirts

From Top:

What's not to like? Go put some animals on your chest you fierce, fierce beautiful bitches! (pun(s) intended).   I normally get my animal shirts at fairs, thrift stores and clothing swaps but apparently they're good enough for high fashion now.  The top two images are Givenchy and Balenciaga?!  Yes way.

You call them Kimonos, I call them Bathrobes, We can all call them Comfortable

From Top:

Whatever you choose to call this amazingly comfortable style, take advantage of the Kimono trend while it lasts because it's about as close as you can get to being allowed to wear PJs during the day that you're going to get.  The ASOS Kimono is the most affordable example above, but I also included the Naeem Kahn  because, however unaffordable, it is an amazing example of straight up satin PJs thrown on the runway. The only thing that separates this outfit from a full fledged pair of PJs is that they've thrown a sequined blazer over it.  Go ahead and grab a coffee, put a newspaer under your arms, go do your morning #2, then leave the house IN THE SAME OUTFIT.  Splendid!

Also I'd just like to make a shout out for my first article on naag.com, Agyness Deyn and Fiona Byrne's website.  I've been a busy girl but writing about fashion is so much fun that it hardly feels like work! FASHION NERD ALERT.  Its so nice to finally have my name on an article that I didn't have to post myself.  Ha!

It's Mad Hot Out- you have my permission to wear as little as possible

     Photography: Barbara Bushwick

What I wore:
Vintage Body Suit
H&M Shorts
Romwe Stacked Sandals
Verameat Necklace

This heat wave has been brutal and, when it comes to clothes, I say wear as little as you can get away with.  As you can see, I rolled up to my friends' birthday picnic this weekend wearing next to nothing. In some countries clothes are illegal.  Just kidding. Wait, maybe that's true?  Ima go Wikipedia it.

Meet My Friend Brian. He Is Cool!

What Brian wore:

Tampa Bay Devil Rays Baseball Cap (he doesn't watch the games so don't ask him about them!)

Lately I've had a bunch of requests from my male friends to start covering men's fashion.  What better way to start than inspired by one of my own male friends, Brian?!  I ran into Brian on Thursday night and was really digging his steez.  I love a man in a baseball cap and thick framed glasses. I think I first fell in love with this look when Spike Lee rose to fame.

There is just something so smart and solid about this look.  Plus, baseball hats are hot and fedora's suck: they're a great way to fuck up an outfit. So don't wear them, especially if you're a guy.  The fedora phase has died. It had it's moment and its now over. Amen. RIP.  I'm all for interesting and androgynous male styles but when it comes down to it I really just like dudes to look like dudes.

Also, can we please talk about mens' shorts?  I really liked Brian's choice in shorts- in this case he wore American Apparel.  I liked them because they are relaxed and loose fitting. Way too many male hipsters are wearing tight denim cutoffs that encase their legs like sausages and give their belly's nowhere to go but into a muffin top. Stop the madness! This style only works if the dude is manorexic or blessed with frog legs.  Sorry, but I just had to get that out.

Back to Brian! Brian had some understated touches to his outfit that I  really appreciated- the bold red color of his straightforward Vans tennis shoes, the Swatch Watch and the boom box print on his simple t-shirt.  Watches are where it's at these days - especially since they have become sort of unnecessary as we all have cell phones. Their frivolousness makes them kind of retro and also a more thoughtful accessory than functional, which I find endearing and cool. Get a similar look to Brian:
