Polka Dots and Zebra Print on Kiawah Island, SC

Shirt:  vintage
Sunnies: vintage Lunor, model 226
Jeans: J. Brand
Ugly Flip Flops: Reef
Jean Shorts: H&M jeans that I cut off
Toe Nail Polish: OPI 'Fiercely Fiona'

Just got back from a lovely 5 days on Kiawah Island with my wonderful old friend Emily. Kiawah is a beautiful island right off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina.  We had a such spectacular time and got some great shots with my new camera. I'll post the pics over several days since since I want to share them all with you and there are just too many for one post.

I had so much fun in my new zebra print bikini- I don't know if I'll ever quit animal prints- I just feel fierce whenever I wear them :) (See this and this and this) I don't normally post pictures of myself and my personal style on this blog but now that I have a worthy camera I think I might start- kind of scary but I welcome your feedback!  What do you think?  Also, I have a new blog format which is a work in progress so I'd love to hear your thoughts on that too! Do you like it?

xo

P.S. At the beach is the only time on the face of this earth you'll see me in flip flops.

Catamarans and Uniforms

I've been in vacation mode and a little slack on my posts, for which I apologize. I've been to three different states in the last month.  Although this post is very  loosely fashion related, I thought I'd share with you some photos from a recent trip to visit my father in New Bern, NC. I just got a nice new camera- please bear with me as I learn how to use it!  These are some of the better shots I got, although far from the skill level I want to have! Some highlights of the trip were visiting my Uncle's new house that he built for himself in nearby Oriental, NC (top image) and sailing on his 32 ft Catamaran, which he docks right in his new back yard.  I loved the spirit of simplicity with which my Uncle has decorated his new home.

We also visited an old Civil War Fort (aka War of the "States" down South)- Ft. Macon- which was pretty cool. Of course I was interested in some of the clothes they had on display that the soldiers used to wear.  I was quite impressed by their timelessness.  I recently bought a belt that looks similar to the one above, but with a smaller pouch- it's so useful and so cool, although I'm pretty sure function was much more important for the soldiers! I would also wear those black suede shoes in a heartbeat.

White Not?

Yolandi Vi$$er, Die Antwoord

I've already done a post on the all white trend.  But I'm going to do another because this is my blog and I can do what I want.  Wearing all white=amazeballs.  You should do it.  Throw in a leopard print belt or a burst of color if you want to keep things interesting but whatever you do, do it.

If you find the last photo weird/offensive well, f$ck off.  It is indeed both weird and offensive but I will defend Yolandi and her white rats Till The End :)

Feisty today, aren't I?

Love you! Mean it!!

Mary Kate Kills It (again and again)

OK, I admit it. I love Mary Kate Olsen and I especially love her in this vintage Givenchy dress.  She's is my fashion vice- I want to quit her but I can't.  The emerald cuffs and necklace are a perfect accent and her red eye makeup is just divine.  In fact, this is the only look that has really stuck in my mind since the plethora of images of lovely ladies in lovely gowns at The Met Gala on Monday night flooded the blogoshpere .

Patron of the New - a Tribeca Boutique Opening Celebration

Last Thursday Al Abayan (above) kindly invited me to a celebrate the opening of his new Tribeca Boutique, Patron of the New, at 151 Franklin St.  The pieces are intensely well curated, made by designers you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the city let alone the United States.  If you want to find a very special piece, that no one else is wearing, this might be the place to go.  The space is enormous and minimally stocked- a coat here, a few bags there, and for this reason you can really appreciate the items for what they are, art.  The crowd on Thursday seemed to be as carefully selected as the clothing, with a glowing Debbie Harry floating among the intensely fashionable guests.  I am still kicking myself for chickening out in taking a real picture of her (you can see her in the second to last pic, far right blonde (duh) woman).

This post is all over the place but embodies where my head is at today: Spring.  Some of my favorite products are in the 3rd image- all you need to wear for a fresh face and fresh scent in the Spring. I've used all these products for years and  I'm pretty much wearing pretty much no other cosmetic products right now.  I'm on a "less is more" makeup bent right now. A beauty trick I learned years back was to you the translucent CG lip balm as an eyeshadow gloss- it gives a lovely dewy finish if you just swipe it on your bare lid.  Last night I got my toes and nails did in OPI shade "Fiercely Fiona" and I'm feeling pretty fresh about that too.
